jenX: Episode 6 with Personal Stylist Laurel Kinney re-airs Tonight, Mon., Nov. 29 at 6:00 p.m. CST
Did you guys have a restful Thanksgiving weekend? Enjoy the company of those around your table? Also DID YOU SHOP? I’m on the fence about consumerism as a source of joy and as a thing so tightly wound around the upcoming winter holidays, but damn, I needed a few new things. So, on Black Friday, I jettisoned a lot of items I will never wear/use/read again and made space to add far fewer new things that I’m sure to put in regular rotation. From my recent check-ins with friends, it seems I’m not the only one who spent part of the weekend streamlining spaces and processes.
If you’ll be purging your own closet sometime soon, I recommend listening to the encore of jenX: Dispatches from Life in the Middle, Episode 6 from last week. It airs today, November 29 at at 6:00 p.m. CST on Black Sparrow Radio. In this episode specifically about personal style shifts during this phase of the pandemic, Personal Stylist Laurel Kinney and I discussed size changes, the need to keep clothing choices comfortable (but an upgraded-looking comfortable?), and how to avoid shopping without a style plan. I am still thinking about some of the things Laurel said during that show and love her process of finding words that define one’s personal style. It’s such a mindful, intentional approach to creating a wardrobe that works for a variety of contexts and I already have follow-up questions. We packed a lot into an hour last week.
jenX: Episode 7 - Community with Gerald Anderson and Yolanda Nagy
This week it’s Giving Tuesday (on Nov. 30) and the theme of the show is Community. Two different guests, both Central Texas natives, will join me for half-our interviews.
For the first half of Episode 7, I’ll be chatting with Gerald Anderson. Gerald is from Taylor, TX where Black Sparrow Radio/KBSR HQ is located. He serves on the Taylor city council and is the Executive Director of the Bill Pickett Foundation. If you haven’t heard of Bill Pickett, we’ll be talking about his legacy, about the foundation named for him, and about the upcoming Bill Pickett Foundation Toy Drive for kids in Taylor. And since Gerald is a city council member, I will of course be asking him about the community’s response to last week’s news of Samsung setting up shop in Taylor.
For the second half of Episode 7, Austin native Yolanda Nagy will be joining me. I met Yolanda through Instagram and will finally be meeting her in person tomorrow! She is my go-to person for Central Texas farmers market updates. When I want to know which vendors will be at the markets, I check out Yolanda’s Instagram account spotlighting local farmers markets, farmers, and makers, Eatin’ & Sippin’ Locally. Yolanda also contributes to Edible Austin magazine and is a marketing consultant for Texas Farmers Market. We’ll be chatting about the community Yolanda finds each week when she heads out to the farmers market and about her passion for this specific storytelling niche in Central Texas.
I hope you’ll tune in Tuesday, November 30 at noon CST for my conversations with Gerald Anderson and Yolanda Nagy. You can download the Black Sparrow Radio app for Apple or Android devices to listen, or just stream directly from the Black Sparrow Radio website.
See you on the airwaves, friends.
